About this site

Why This? Why Now?

My name doesn’t matter; what does matter is why you are here. Let’s just call me JCIV for now and let me explain how this whole idea started. Several years ago, in the state of New Jersey where I was raising my family, I had a friend named Dave. He and I spent a lot of time together, and during our outings I noticed Dave did small, unexpected acts of kindness for complete strangers. He would anonymously pick up a lunch check for an 80-year-old couple who were sharing their lunch together at the local diner, or he might just hold the door open for a young mother walking into a store. On occasion, he would help someone cross the street when there was slush and snow on the roadway. When this happened, I noticed that I also wanted to do something nice for a complete stranger. It made me feel giddy inside by causing a random act of kindness.

So now, here I am, many years later, and I finally found time and a rare individual who was eager to donate his time and energy in helping me develop and implement my vision. That vision now includes a simple website where each person can pass along a small kindness card that invites the next person to pay it forward and log their act of kindness online, creating a visible chain of goodwill. The card carries a short message and a unique code that allows every recipient to see how far the kindness has traveled and how many people have been touched by it. My vision is to spread some love around the world, one person and one kindness card at a time. So, if you were recently hit with a random act of kindness and were pleasantly surprised and happy, you now know how this whole thing got started and how you can help keep it going
